Audio Music question

I have two speakers. I'm not sure if they are sub woofers or not. How can I find out. They are pretty old and it seems like they play a lot more base than other sounds but they play lyrics and other stuff as well but very soft. one is of the size of the steering wheel and another one little bigger than that. If I would want to build custom made sub woofer where should I check... Thanks

So I'm assuming your not doing anything critical with these...
For personal enjoyment either may work. The first place I would look would be the label. Who makes it and what model is it? Then do a google. Are they passive? Do they have a built in crossover? there are a lot of questions. Do you have an amp to power them? They are probably consumer units that are not good for much except giving you some thump in your disco, but? A good sub is pretty expensive and needs to calibrated like the rest of your studio. Again if its for personal pleasure and you like the way they sound go for it. If you want to mix tracks using them the odds are they will do more damage than good, but you really need to know what they are and how to set them up.

My friend used them in his custom made speakers for his DJ gigs. Those speakers were very powerful but very bulky i had to get rid of them. I just thought if I get a theater system for my place those could work as good sub woofers. Thanks for your reply.

you need to make sure you have the ohm loads balanced correctly if you plan to add them to an existing system. You can fry your amp.

i see on that speaker it says 8 ohm(the thing with funny sign) or is it something else?? I checked the company that makes zeus sub makes speakers for cars. Will it still work good for a sub for home theater?? I don't have any system setup yet but I'm planning to .I don't know much about music equipment but from I read every sub has separate amplifier?? So if this Zeus sub is 300 watt I should get 300 watt amp or lil higher?? The other sub is nameless no serial number nothing

When you said speaker I think most of us thought you were talking about one in an enclosure. To use either of those you need to build or get a speaker enclosure. Those both look like bass speakers so probably they will work. You need a crossover so the bass will get sent to the sub and not to the main speakers.
Yes that symbol that looks a little like a horse shoe stands for Ohms (the symbol is an Omega - greek letter).
