Audio Mixer with Final Cut Pro?

I was thinking of getting an external audio mixer to use with my Final Cut Pro set up. I have some good size pro studio monitors that I have hooked right up to my computer. Is there a way to run an external mixer with FCP? I am not sure if I would be able to mix audio while I edit with the external mixer but I might be able to mix it upon output or no?

Re: Audio Mixer with Final Cut Pro?

was wondering if the Mackie Onyx with firewire I/O would be able to interface with FCP or maybe there are people out there that are writing code for such a use. That would be great to be able to do that.

Yea I am not sure but in various trade magazines that I get, I have seen various editing setups where you see the external mixer right there on the desk with everything else. So I am not sure if can be done or not.

Re: Audio Mixer with Final Cut Pro?

I called apple to find out, there is nothing that interfaces with the mixer. all you can do is export an omf file and play with it in PT or even Bias Deck with a tascam 1884 board, fully automated, but that's it..

LSDSound, do you have anything to do with that incredible band LSD Sound System? - Sorry for the off topic... :P

Re: Audio Mixer with Final Cut Pro?

You can take and out put of a mixer, and plug it into the mic input on the computer. It's not the best solution, but it works for temp stuff.

Re: Audio Mixer with Final Cut Pro?

Why would you need to have the mixer interface with FCP? Just run the line-out from the sound card to the mixer and an output from the mixer to the line-in of the comp. I also have my DV deck's audio patched into my mixer so I don't need to go through firewire to have the sound.

What kind of audio card are you using? Does it have balanced output? Does that matter if it's going back into the computer? And can't you just mix 1-2 channels with this set-up unless the card has many channels for output?

I'm lookind for a good soundcard for my mac (dual867)? any suggestions?

Re: Audio Mixer with Final Cut Pro?

I have a Maudio 2496. It's got unbalanced RCA outputs and inputs. I have a 10 channel mixer. I can control PC audio level, and audio level from my DV player, all of which gets routed to my Studio Monitors. I haven't patched the Master level output back to my sound card because I don't have a need for that yet.

As for unbalanced vs. balanced, as long as your cable length is relatively short and you use shielded cable, unbalanced connection will suffice.

What is Mackie Control Universal? Can you explain what that is and how it interfaces with Vegas?

Look into M-Audio 2496 or M-Audio 1010's with external breakout box and PCI Card. I'm looking into it my self. But since the 2496 is only 2 channels it pretty limiting. I personally looking at 8 channel I/O setups.
