Audio Levels but no sound

I captured some footage from vhs about a month ago. Up until yesterday I had no problem playing these files in preview & timeline. Last week i captured some hdv footage to the same project that works fine. Yesterday I stopped hearing audio on the vhs footage but still have audio levels. Any Ideas? I checked my audio preferences and they checkedout fine. Please help!

your playback settings might be switched to play back on external audio instead of desktop audio. Should be under Project - project settings- general- playback

or your speakers could be turned off.
