audio level question

Hey guys and gals,

I have an audio question. I am trying to boost the audio level of a speech. Unfortunately, the guy running the board had the audio a bit too low, and the guy giving the speech was a bit of a "low talker" as well.
Any way to crank up the volume? I believe I have the audio boosted as much as it can go. But I have not quite mastered the techniques on the audio portions of Vegas yet.
If any one has any tips I sure would appreciate it.Thanks in advance.

You can normalize the audio. Right-click on the audio event and select Switches > Normalize. If this doesn’t raise the audio level enough, Add Wave Hammer to the track, start with the Voice setting and lower the Threshold on the Volume Maximizer tab to increase the sensitivity to low volume.

I should have mentioned that normalize will only bring the loudest sound to 0dB FS. If you have a spike like a clap or audience applause, it will skew the results and the rest of the audio will still be too low. To get around this, split the event around the loud parts and re-check normalize on the low parts and it will make them louder because it will evaluate the volume relative to only that event.

Hey Johnny -- I've been wrestling with audio issues and your hint on cutting before normalizing is golden. Thanks!
