Audio issue after capturing...

I recorded using two channels and only one of them is showing up when I capture my footage. I had one channel that totally messed up while filming and the other channel was recording the audio just fine. I just captured my footage and the only track showing up is the one that recorded bad audio.

What am I doing wrong? This was my first gig and I REALLY hope I didn't screw myself over. It was a dance recital. I am positive I was recording on two channels but the second one isn't showing up...

I'd start with listening to the audio during playback on the camcorder you used for recording to check the quality of what you recorded. Let us know if it's what you've intended and we can pitch in to help sort it out. I hope you were following the rule to use headphones to monitor your audio mix. Sorry if you've already done this.

Really hope you got what you wanted.

It sounds horrible through the camera, and yes, I used headphones. I used both channels of audio and hooked it up straight into the soundboard. For some reason, one of the channels stopped working correctly and the other one went unharmed. But for some reason when I captured it into Premiere, it's messed up on BOTH channels.

Luckily I had a second cam rolling and I am going to try and use that audio. The audio goofed up on that camera as well and so it's definitely not an error on my end. This audio seems to be alright so far. I will have to inspect it further. I had someone else using the camera and they had problems as well with a "popping" noise but I have yet to hear it.

I'm really sorry that it sounds horrible when you play it back from the camera you recorded it for I think that means something went wrong with your recording settings. It will take someone else smarter than me to explain this.

I don't know how Premiere could improve something from its original recording. Check to see if someone recorded the audio for the event, if your other camera does not have a good recording. I was saved once in the past by this good fortune.

If you happen to have another nonlinear editor, see if you have the same problem when you try to capture it. If so you need to look for your audio elsewhere.

Again, best wishes.
