Audio In - In Camera Mode

G'day all,

I need to take audio from a band's mixer line out, I had hoped to use the RCA input on the camera, but have found a thread that informed me that the RCA is only Line Out in Camera Mode. Is there any way I can get this sound to my Camera?
Or, would I be better off using a pair of Mics through a Mixer.

Any & all help appreciated. BB

Re: Audio In - In Camera Mode

If the band's mixer can supply an XLR out, just pipe that straight into the DVX.

If they only have line out, you can get an RCA->XLR cable and still be able to use it.

Re: Audio In - In Camera Mode

Be sure to set the XLR input as line - not mic. if you go this route.

Re: Audio In - In Camera Mode

Thanks Barry & Shooter, the Band has RCA Line Out, so I will go shopping for an RCA-> XLR adaptor.
This site is a University Course for DVX. Love it! ;D

you have to pass the exams or find your self in dv info net:-)

Re: Audio In - In Camera Mode

OK, Back again. I have just reviewed the tape from the job I was asking about. Technicly everything from my end worked fine, thanks to good info from you people. BUT!! these two guys go to retirement homes & entertain the old folks.(might be there myself soon) What they DON'T know about setting up their mixer etc. would fill a book. One of the mics was not working, so I got none of his vocals, even though it sounded OK in the room. I had my DVX set on a tripod & at times used a single CCD to get audience reaction & close up shots. The sound on this was acceptable & had the advantage of being able to hear applause etc. I will do it again for them but am tempted to use the on camera mic alone. It is not a huge room. Perhaps if they get their mixer sorted I may use No 2 Ch. from the mixer & use the on camera to get live room sounds. Any ideas?

Lesson from the University of DV and the School of Hard Knocks - monitor your sound via the supplied headphone jack.

IMHO - the onboard mic wont do the job for you if you want anything better than just a videograph of the event. Sort the techos out and do the check.

Good Luck

Re: Audio In - In Camera Mode

Thanks again, I do have a Panasonic Shotgun mic, but have suggested they take their gear to a local music supply crowd & get some checks done & probably some help in setting up their system. We will do it again .. I was happy with the camera & the way the sound came through, even though the sound was not mixed well, so it was a good experience as a training run for ME. I would have liked to have had audience reaction sound, applause etc. which was not there from the mixer. It IS a big learning curve, so if the UNI doesn't get me then the hard knocks will! Cheers.

PS.
I used the head phones initially, the problem came later when they plugged another guitar & mic in. ???
