audio gear setup

I'm going to be purchasing audio gear within the next couple weeks and just wanted some opinions to make sure I'm on the right track.

I'm going to be getting:

oktava mk012a from sound-room
Rycote BBG from sound-room
Windjammer from sound-room
Audio Technica AT8415 shockmount with k-tek bands from B&H
Gitzo G7680C (not sure of the best place to get this, any suggestions?)

I'm kind of torn between the AT shockmount and the sambra som from sound-room. Which of these do you guys think would be better especially for use with the BBG? I'd really love to get the kssm but don't really have the extra $$$.

Also, maybe this is a crazy idea/stupid question, would there be any problem in using an external preamp? I know people use field mixers (SD302, mixpre, Shure fp33, etc.), but I have a studio projects vtb1 and love the sound from it, plus it has a high pass filter. Is there any problem using it and feeding the line out straight to the dvx?

Sorry for so many questions.

check the psc shock mount , i prefer it to the 2 you did mention
about preamp , if it good why not , the only ***** you will need to hear the return from the camera all the time

good choices.

The 7680 was replaced at NAB with a new pole GB3560

Stick with a 12' carbon fiber pole. Aluminum transfers vibrations. That is not a good place to save some$$

Thanks for the replies!

I definately look into the psc shockmount.

Thanks for the heads up on the replacement pole from gitzo. That's the one I'll probably go with.

I know the kssm comes highly recommended here and I would really love to get it. I'm just trying to keep my audio budget under $800. The AT mount with ktek bands is $65 from B&H, the kssm is $120. Is there really a huge noticeable difference between the two? If so, I suppose I could skip the windjammer and go with the kssm. Thanks.

I don't like the sabra-som shockmount because you have to thread the rubber band yourself which makes quick microphone changes difficult. It's also surprisingly fragile. I had it on a boom pole, accidentally bumped into a door and the thing just breaks.

jade8472, thanks for the heads up on the sabra som shockmount. I'm not going to consider that one any further.

I'm probably going to stick with the AT shockmount. Anyone have experience with this mount and the oktava + BBG? Does the kssm offer any huge advantage over the AT?

Thanks,

-Jon

i have two of the at-8415's with the k-tek bands (B&H kit) and they are great solid shockmounts.

i also have the sabra som and the ktek gps.

i really like the concept of the sabra som as the bands give you a lot of options on how tight/loose you want the fit to be.

i wish the sabra som had a longer rod to spread out the mic holders as they seem a little too close together when i use my cmc6/mk41/cut1 or cmit 5u.

i am currently considering getting one of the Cinela oxis cmit mounts as it supports both the cmc6/mk41/cut1 and the cmit5u

for a first time shockmount i don't think you can go wrong with the at-8415 (especially with the b&h ktek band kit)
