Audio for multicamera shoot

Hi

I am undertaking a 5 camera shoot soon and will need to take sound out of a mixing desk of a bands performance, i currently use a Ikey which takes a stereo jack output but find that this does not give the felixability that i am after, i need something that i can adjust vocals and some instruments be it 4 track, 8 track whatever.

I dont know if this is possible i have tried researching it but i also need it to be able to run with out a sound engineer and only have someone just setting it up.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Get yourself something like a Korg D-12 HDD recorder/mixer. Then you can either run the mics straight to their own channels (instruments too), or from the house mixer to yours..

The only way to adjust elements of a recording individually is to have them isolated at the time of the recording. This is the point of multi-track recording for musicians... if you're only source of sound is a feed from the board then you must still have a sound feed for whatever individual tracks that you want control over. This means jumping from each output of the board (assuming the mixing desk has enough outputs for each channel to give YOU one for each channel).

If the board has a firewire out... then you can run Boom Recorder (or Protools) on a laptop and get the result you're asking for... but it's likely that if the location sound mixer has a firewire board, that he'll already have that output taken... but you can always make some calls and do some planning ahead of time (a good idea anyway).

If I were you I'd call whoever will be running that mixing desk and tell that person what you want to do... ask them if the board they are using will have open outputs that you can use.

Thanks for the reply,

i will look into these options, i was also wondering if using either of these options would they have to be maned or would they be able to run on there own.

Cheers

While my method isn't the clean pro way, it is better than camera alone. It is best to have someone to monitor and adjust, but I have also set it with a practice run, and let it go, then adjusted the mix down on playback. Again, not as clean, but fast and cheap.
