Hey guys im working on an interview and I need to mask the the voice of someone. But heres the thing. Its a girl and my director dosent want her to sound like darth vader (basically lowering the pitch) So I was wondering if any of you knew some good filter settings for audio (for masking a voice)? I was experimenting using both a high pitch and low pitch filter to make kind of a robotic sound, but couldnt get it to sound right. so please some fresh ideas would be much appreciated!!

thanks

Not clear what exact sound effect you're looking for. Can you name a similar effect in some show or film to compare to? I normally do my vocal effects with an old DigiTech Vocalist Workstation. But you can still do a good bit of stuff with vocal effects, especially in SoundTrack Pro.

So, you need to "mask" (remove) a voice, or you need it to sound different?

There are vocal masking filters, but the problem is that they mask all voices, not just one, if there are more than on in the recording. And they don't always work well with all recordings.

for right now im using two AUpitch filters one low pitch the other high and reduced the mix slider. Makes kind of a robotic sound. I just need to make it so this one girl (no other voices in the clip) dosent sound like herself. But dosent sound too deep or too high pitched

First up, I'd do all this in STP, not FCP. Then go to Process > Misc > PitchShifter II. Set the Mix to 100%, Semi Tones to -3. That'll give you a great place to start. This is going to be exactly what you want.
