audio effect thing

sorry i really have no idea what this is called. just that audio effect thats given for added dramatic effect and all. its like a low rummble/wind noise idk its hard for me to explain but does anyone know how to create it

heres and example. at the end of the first song in this trailer right before the second song goes on: http://youtube.com/watch?v=CZGseissqX8

i know i explained that terribly but i really have no idea what to call it

I just got done with a school project where we replaced ALL the sound of 5 minutes of a movie of our choice. We did Serenity. I created the whooshes and rumble for the start of the title sequence with a noise oscillator of a software synth. I don’t know what you know about synthesizers, but I’ll explain what I did.

Specifically, I used Propellerhead’s Reason. I used two noise oscillators in the Thor synth. I pitched down oscillator 1. I adjusted the envelope for a slower attack and slower release. I also put a low-pass filter on it. The second oscillator was the same as the first, but one octave lower. I also routed it separately out a third output in Thor and modulated it with the envelope and one of Thor’s assignable knobs for seperate volume control. I used the second oscillator for the LFE channel.

For the high end of the “whooshes”, I found a patch in Reason’s NN-XT sampler that sounded good (autumn, I think it was called). You could also use another noise oscillator pitched higher then the others: Thor can have up to 3.

I told you how to do it with Reason because that’s what I used. Any noise oscillator should work if you play with it.

Hope that helps.

You could also take the sound of a rocket or a jet passby and pitch it down. Maybe even take two and reverse one. I just thought of that after I posted my last post.
