Audio editing outside premier

I'm going to start editing a new short in a few weeks, only this time I'm mixing sound in 5.1 with Vegas (I strongly prefer Premier for picture editing, and Adobe Audition requires me to reformat my hard drive to ever work again).

My question is, does anyone have a suggestion for a workflow? At the moment all I can think of is syncing the dialouge tracks in Premier only, exporting it to Vegas, centering the dialouge track, and then adding in all the other sound effects there. The difficultly that leaves me with is that any minor change in the picture edit would throw off the Vegas version significantly.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi Gohanto,

Yes, I know what you mean. The workflow would be to split the audio/video tracks, edit the audio in an external program, import it as a stand-alone track and slide it in to match the edit (be sure to increase the screen size to correctly lip-sync the audio/video). Of course, when you belatedly add video that requires audio that's been cut, there's no elegant fix and you're back to square one. Now there's a reason to get a second hard drive for Audition!

Regards, Michael

Do a rough assembly of your audio - dialouge, sound effects, music - within Premiere while you are assembling your picture edit. When you take it into Vegas you'll be able to finish without any surprises.
