audio editing in a multicam project

im editing a dance recital. two simultaneous cameras on a multicam timeline. the audio comes in to the cam sequences as two mono tracks. which is what i want.
but when i put those sequences into the multicam sequence, the audio becomes two stereo tracks
and when i go to the Final sequence, it is one stereo track. i want to be able to mix the two tracks independently after i do the multicam edit. one cam has ambient audio on track one and board audio on track two. the closer cam has two tracks of camera audio, which is good for getting the taps when they tap. but you dont need all that ambience for the ballet. any info on how i can modify my workflow would be deeply appreciated. thanks.

I would take the board audio track as your master track and treat the other tracks as FX tracks in the mix. Cut video from both cams to the master track first. Then play with the ambient and 2nd camera tracks to get the appropriate mix.

Once you do your multicam cut, drop the original sequence onto tracks 2. Delete the uncut video portion, and replace the cut audio with the uncut. Then do your mixing in the original sequence.
