Audio editing/filter question...

Hi, I've started editing some audio on a project and am wondering if anyone can direct me to an old topic or site that explains what the filters do? (Like shelf / echo etc...) to make the best use of them. And get (close to) movie-quality sound? Thanks.

And/or answer my biggest question on my mind which is :

I have a dialogue scene between two people - the sound is stereo (with tha two green bars per clip) - and at times in the dialogue you can hear people in the background walking / turning pages or clearing their throats.
Now it's not so bad...but obviously it's not so good either.

Anyone care to let me know what filter or edit/whatever I can do to keep the dialogue but elminiate that background noise?

note: if it helps - the background noise is quieter then the dialogue, but every now and then a page turn (or whatever it was) peeks and is louder then everything.

Thanks for the help.

edit > guess I should say, the sound was recorded into the camera via boom : oktava MK012...thats all I know.

1) The manual goes into the filters in great detail. You can use the 'online' version as you are working in FCP to check your needs.

2) no... your best bet is to get some quiet 'room noise' and trim up your dialog as close as you can and lay it over the room noise track.

Good luck,

Soundtrack has just the feature you need.
You select an area with just room noise,
and do a Set Ambient Noise Print.
Then select your trouble spots, and
do Apply Ambient Noise.
This will fill the selection.

See the manuals for the workflow from
FCP to Soundtrack and back.

The soundtrack manual has a very good chapter
on audio effects. It has a general description of
the various types followed by specifics.
