Audio dubbing problem

Ok. I give up. I have beent trying to import sound into my dvx from the external output of my small 12 track behringer board. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but nothing is working. I set the camera to VCR mode, have the audio coming into the camera via stereo RCA cables into it's audio in/out plugs, audio rec is set to 12bit, the Audio Dub Input is set to A_IN. I than proceeded to follow the directions in the manual by setting the camera to rec pause and pressing the Audio Dub button. I'm not even getting sound levels on my camera.

Please help, what am I doing wong?

does your original sound is 12 or 16 bit , the audio dub is possible with 12 bit

I don't know. My signal is coming from behringer board, so I'm guessing whatever analog converts to as far as 12 or 16 bit. Is there anyway I can work around this? What are the ideal external sources that would let me toggle between 12 and 16 bit? Is there a particular reason why I can't get a signal from my mixer board?

when you dub , you replace existing track with another , its possible only in 12 bit mode ( your original track have to be 12 bit )
if not it is not possible

the choose to rec in 12 or 16 bit is on the menu -it have nothing with analog signal

Hey Oleg, I don't think he's trying to dub over video, he's just trying to get audio to come into the camera at all.

Look for a menu option for VCR pass-thru - I think it's in av in/out, turn DV Out to Off. That *might* do it. It definitely can be done, I've done it before...

Audio Dub is for when you've recorded something already, and you want to overdub audio onto it (not replace the audio, but add two more audio tracks to it). Like if you were shooting news and you wanted to add a voiceover, maybe. It only works if you record the original in 12-bit audio, because DV provides for up to four tracks of 12-bit audio, but only two tracks of 16-bit audio.

I'm still not sure what exactly the DarkOne is trying to do... dub audio over exising audio/video, digitize audio for directi input into an NLE (as Mr. Green seems to suggest), or use external audio while recording video. DarkOne, can you tell us exactly what you want to do?

In any case, from the manual:

"It is not possible to record the audio signals
if video signals are not input to the S-VIDEO
IN/OUT connector or VIDEO IN/OUT
connector except when performing audio
dubbing."

If you're not dubbing, then this may be part of the problem
