I am working at a student television station and we are (temporarily) using FCP timelines to play our broadcasts. It worked fine but recently it has stopped playing audio randomly while allowing the video to play. Sometimes hitting pause and then play again works but sometimes not. Anyone have any ideas? In addition, we are looking for a program that would allow us to create a video playlist essentially of our programming, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, and fyi we are running this on macs

What format is the audio in? FCP specifically doesnt like MP3s or any other compressed audio files.

Cynic is correct, what is the audio format? Also, what is your hardware set up, and what version of FCP are you using?

It is audio captured from the Sony DV Decks, its not like music or anything. We have taken episodes that were rendered as qt movs and put them in a timeline, essentially its a guerrilla "playlist" that is on loop 24/7. Our hardware setup is a G5 with final cut pro 5.1.2 going through a sony deck to a mackie mixer and a grass valley studio switcher. This then goes out to the main cable feed to the rest of campus. The audio, however, is just not playing in FCP, its not anywhere else in the setup. We can tell this because were not getting levels in fcp. usually all we have to do is hit pause and then play again, although this isnt always an option at like 4 am when no one is awake, holidays, etc.

What model of Mac with how much RAM? Maybe your Sequence isn't set up correctly and it's having to render the audio? Not sure without detailed info.
