Hello everyone,
I shot about 8 or so hours of recital footage and am attempting to capture some of it via my DVX100a into Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5. I'm running a laptop (Asus M6Ne) with Windows XP Professional SP2, a 1.7 Dothan Centrino and 1GB of Ram, with a four-pin firewire input, and I'm capturing to an external hard drive (7200rpm).
I understand I should use a different deck if I care about the life of the camera heads, but for this absolute moment, I need to capture via the camera. I've had the DVX since early 2003, and captured to a desktop in Premiere Pro 1.0 with absolutely no problems. However, capturing to my laptop I've noticed a few problems with audio. There seems to be some kind of audio artifact or dropout that occurs when capturing into Premiere. The thing is, when trying to capture into a demo of Sony Vegas, there were only MORE audio dropouts. Using a Nero video capture produced the same problems. Therefore I'm not too sure as to whether this has anything to do with Premiere or to the hardware setup I have going on. Furthermore, if I rewind the tape and try playing it again, I can sometimes capture a clean segment of tape and just drop that into the timeline over the dropout portion. BTW, listening to the acutal tape, there seems to be no dropout whatsoever on the footage. This leads me to believe that the issue occurs on the computer somewhere.
I've tried capturing to the internal drive with the same issues arising. The old desktop no longer works, so I have no frame of reference as far as that goes. I'm not too sure what's going on, but does this sound like anything anyone's experienced before? Is this an error on my part (clipping)? Could it be dirty heads (I haven't ever used a headcleaning tape)? Might it be interference from the electronics? Is there a problem with Premiere Pro 1.5?
Here's a link to a sample. The artifact can be heard in the right channel.
