Maybe I'm confused here but it seems a lot of these posts are by picture editors advocating doing the sound work in a NLE.
With that logic I'm going to flip it. I think you should just cut picture in Pro Tools. Then the sound will be great. Sure you will get a cuts only editor and only one track but the restrictions on picture aren't really any greater than the restrictions on sound in a NLE.

You are not limited to frame only cuts unless your silly enough to try to do sound in a NLE.
This of course could go a long way toward explaining the generally horrible sound in a lot of stuff we see.
