Audio cuts out during playback

I'm running Premiere Pro 2.0 on Windows on a Mac Pro. When doing playback on the timeline, sometimes the audio will just cut out (the audio mixer in Premiere shows nothing) while the video keeps playing. Sometimes ONE audio track keeps playing, while the others cut out. If I stop playback and play again, it comes back. But these occasional drop outs are really annoying!

Any idea what may be causing this? My Windows partition is 32gb and I have around 9gb of space left, could this be hurting performance? I can't think of anything else. 2gb RAM. The only thing I have installed is Premiere.
 
Really? Because I used to run premiere pro 2 on my PC with 1gb RAM and never had this problem before.
