Audio compressor in the FCP 4 mixer or filters

Within the audio mixer for FCP 4 is there a simple way to compress a track? If not is there a "filter" to do same in audio filters?

Is there a book you would recommend for straightforward instructions and directions. I find it nearly impossible to find what I need in the manuals.
