Audio compression

What audio compressor for audio do you use?
And can you recommend a site with info on settings etc regarding adio compressing?

Thanks in advance.

So you are compressing for the web? If you are using Quicktime 7 and choosing to compress using the H.264 codec (video) then I think the default for that is AAC encoding (audio) which works great. You get really small files and amazing sound quality, even in MONO. Compressor's 300K H.264 Pre-set gives alright results. Fiddle around with those pre-sets till you get a look that you like at a size that is acceptable for your audience.

If you don't want to go the H.264 route (because of current compatibility issues) then the tried and true Sorenson 3 codec (video) works and you can use the QDesign Music 2 codec or MP3 (audio) or just use MPEG4 compression all the way. There are so many options that depend on the audience you are delivering it to. Is it going to be served on a LAN or WEB or CD or DVD? What's the target bandwidth cable/dsl or dial-up? Server? etc... Many specifics.
