Audio Channels

Hey Guys,

I am coming from a Photography & new media design background and i know a few things about audio but i need some explanation on some issues. So please bare with me because they may be very stupid questions.

HVX 200 offers four channels of audio, now what does it mean? and how would one use them? would you need four mics going in each channel? Is each channel of audio a Mono or can you record Stereo sound sound on each channel?

With a mini-DV camera how would you capture these extra channels of audio? I have Canon Xm2 and XL1 and have managed to get a sennheiser me66 with K6 from a friend who has been kind enough to give me an XLR adapter for it to connect to my cameras as well (connects to Lanc for power and audio goes in through composite red and white leads, its not the original canon model but a compatible one)

Now are all these Shot Guns Mono only? because when i connected it to XL1 i could only hear audio in the Left or Right channel and not in both. What am i doing wrong.

Can one use the built in Mic on Xl1 and the external Mic like Sennheiser Me66 togather? and record from both so have two streams of audio to play with in the post?

Please help a newbie to professional audio.

Thanks.

the hvx would record 2 external and 2 internal mike channels

that what i understood , you will able playback or import all 4 threw the fire-wire .

probably you would record the same as now, 2 external channels only since the camera mike dont give you to much
each channel for individual sours , you cant blend digitally with that camera .

]some cameras aloud to put one channel on both tracks , if you record stereo or dual mono you will hear 2 channel if you record mono , make adaptor to your headphones( some cameras aloud to hear one channel in both ears)
