I am going to be shooting some weddings and am looking to buy some audio equipment? Does anybody have any experience in this field and maybe direct me in some direction?

Thanks

Sennheiser ew100 g2 system with hand mic transmitter $600 (Mic the groom and it will pick up the bride and officiant too [but you will be riding the levels a bit])
and a countryman emw wired for g2 to replace the stock (crappy lav) $200

EV RE50b hand mic (use with wireless for reception interviews) $200
Rode NTG1 shotgun for on camera $250
Rode SM3 shockmount (for cam) $40
Rode Dead Cat (for VERY mild wind) $40
Sony 7506 headphones $100
Sound Devices Mix Pre $600
Good quality XLR cables $30-$50 each

Might be a little over, but you need a mixer to gets audio control off the camera THIS IS A MUST!!!!

Haha. Well. I am trying to figure out the best combo here. I am goign to be running 2 HVX's, so one with the Sennheiser ew100 g2 system picking up the sound from the groom and a rode shotgun picking up ambient noise should be good?

Excuse me for my ignorance when it comes to the sound field.

2 chiniz friends ( search the forum) and 2 wireless system ( groom and his best friend who talks about the the orgies day did together )
that's under 1500
dont forget psc suspensions another 100 for both cameras

I find there are two types of wedding videograhers; serious business people who invest in quality equipment and those who don't and struggle to keep business going because word of mouth brings about 95% of your business and good audio is the primary diffence between professional wedding videography and something on par with your uncle shooting the wedding. I never meet shooters of the later type who have shot more then a couple weddings; usually because they know the newlyweds.

To that you want two quality w/l; not less then Lectrosonics 200 or 400. The Senn G2 work ok but can and will have drop outs and there is no second take at weddings. For lavs CM EMW sould be fine. You will also want a w/l handheld for various speeches and messages to the newlyweds; Senn G2 is fine for this mic as you should never be more then a couple feet from this mic. A camera mounted shotgun is good but not that much better then the on-camera mic for weddings and would be your last concern. You also should get an audio recorder to record the music at the reception. One of those sub-$500 flash recorders is fine.

Of course all that put together about triples your audio budget but you won't have to re-invest later or apologize because you lost audio at some critical point in the ceremony.

Good luck on shoots. The hardest working people in the videography business is, IMHO, wedding shooters.
