Recently tried with a friend on this issue on G2 Evolution.
This receiver is connected to a portable field mixer. Try to waive a metal object near the receiver.( Need not be in contact to the receiver).

Plug in a HD25 Sennheiser headphones to monitor the audio. Leave the TX on or off does not matter. Turn on the Rx is the main issue. waive the metal object near the receiver. Can you hear some noise?
Please note that this noise is in audible to some headphones only. We choose HD25 because it is quite a popular monitor headphone here and is my favourite.
The noise is inaudible when there is audio input @ the Tx side. But when no one is talking, this noise it pretty obvious.
Tried also with Lectrosonics 100series receiver with also unbal. output but do not encounter this. Why?? Both with unbalance o/p but one picks up the noise and not the other.

RX is the receiver
TX is the transmitter

bad companding noise/high self noise in tx
- you get what you pay for -)
dont get what you mean you hear noise when tx is not on

you mean high rX self noise?
It seems like there is a grounding or isloation problem? It is not self noise. It is like an interference when we move a metal object NEAR the Rx. you can hear Shhh....

Yes i agree with you pay what you get.
Same to headphones as we tried with a few others and nothing is heard only when we put on HD25. This Shhh... can be heard.
You can try it !!!If you have the time

i dont , but i have 25 for adges , you can hear it with 7506 as well in half price :-)

the **** you do hear might be poor first stage rf filtering while the reciever trying to catch or discover the right fq ( even it not exist) and doesnt filtering some **** inthe air which hit the metal object and reflecting to your antenna .
the tx on g-2 have avery bad compander which breafs when you have low background noise
sorry the g-2 dont pass exept monitoring or tc sending for me

let me try out with a 7506 to see if this 1/2price cans can smell the Shhhhhhh...
but i am not sure if you are still toking abt the self noise.
in fact i found the self noise "hisss "not really audible or as bad as you have mentioned. it is the choppy shhhh when i glide a metal object near n not even in contact with the rx. You only experience it when there is metal object near to you.

let me understand - the sh with metal object is while the transmotion ON or when the tx is off
during the transmition the interference might cause because the same rf hit your antenna twice , thats why you usually don't wont metal objects around :-)
take good wireless lectro or audio ltd ( zaxcom if you can find one) , take the microphone out open the tx pot to maximum - bingo:-)

but this is the budget one for small production and i would say it is still alright to own it. See if you don't use any specific headphone, you won't hear it n realise it. I will definitely try out with the HD25 1/2price can next week if... time allows. I think my fren tried with 7506 n mentioned tt not audible of the shhhhh on this can. but i definitely want to test out personally.

might be your friend need much frequently clean his ears:-)
small , big what does it matter
the g-2 price make them affordable but it not make them good for good production sound

Good is in the eye (ear?) of the beholder.

Of course George is right that you would never find the G2 in any truly pro setup, and you get what you pay for.

But in the world of micro budget shooting it serves a definite niche.

There are times that you simply can't get someone to boom the shot, and times when you're shooting in an uncontrolled loud environment. Using a G2 wireless lav may not be great, but it can make a totally unacceptable shot acceptable, though not "good" in an absolute sense.

I don't think you'll find too many other wireless set ups in that price range that can do that.

never intend to say that g-2 is not the best choice under 600$ range - they are .
but - if i compare them to audio limited 10 years ago design or even 195 lectro they sucks hard .
i was expected from company like sennheiser to make much better product .
the quality of sound much notable in quiet environment and not on the noisy street .
i dont see any problem use g-2 in the middle of Manhattan with good lavaliere if you have clean channel and the transmission doesn't die after 10 feet.

it is not an issue of cleaning ears duke! there are ppl tt have their hygiene done daily still cannot appreciate the diff btw headphones. Is your 25 still alive? why not you put it on again and tell me the diff btw both. there is nothing with big or small round or oval, expensive or cheap. HD25 is not 7506 anyway!

i have 2 25hd and 4 7506 and a few others, all of them alive and feel well
i can hear the same with them both but the 25 are more accurate about for fq response and better isolation
still tell your friends to see a doctor

Now you know there is a diff. Phew.. that makes the price 1/2 and your collection on 7506 exactly twice the # of 25. 1 :2.
That is what we toking the freq. range n isolation.
Hospital will be so crowded if these issue are left for them to rectify.

you dont have to tell me what i know - the reason i mix with 7506 is because i like them more on quiet sets and since i know where it lies i can make the same ,not to mention they are much comfortable then the 25 and have longer cable :-)

this issue is set on whether with 7506 can it pick up the Shhhhh.... from the G2. I don't actually want to know what you mix with and what gears you have. This is not my main concern.
