auction/sale of props/items

Since we all like money and could use some for the next production, has anyone tried auctioning off props or items (scripts) or even autographed DVDs or anything like that to try to raise money? I can't bear to let go of the props from our film, but could see an autographed DVD or script or notes, etc.

Sort of different, but a lot of the mid size / indy productions I worked on gave signed posters / lunches with producers / props to charities as a partial tax write off / grassroots ad campaign.

Unless you see a huge "need" from your fan base for merchandising, I think that it can be a waste of money.

Not too long ago i did some consulting work on a project, and one of my projects was offering a walk on role to our next movie at an auction. Turns out that it was a young actor who needed one last SAG voucher (after he had been trying to get one for 2 years).
