Attenuator & Wireless Questions

Hello to everyone. Need some assistance/advice. I'm going to be recording sound on a documentary with a Senn ME66/K6, and I'll be using a Sound Devices MixPre field mixer. Will I need an attenuator?

I would also like to run the mixer to a wireless transmitter, probably a Senn Evolution G2. Is this possible?

Thanks in advance for the assistance.

Jay

Thank god, no. The DVX accepts professional line level (unlike almost all the other prosumer cameras).

You can run a wireless connection to the camera but you will be introducing a lot of noise to your audio (and extra headaches with battery power). Use some nice breakaway cables if possible.

I don't understand why running wireless audio to the camera would be bad for noise, if it's fine to run a wireless mic to a mixer. How are they different? I was thinking of doing something similar--using wired mics through a wireless adapter to the camera.

Any lower end wireless system has companding, which you can hear. That is what wabbit is getting at. The only time to use wireless is when you absolutely have to, not just for convenience sake. Using wireless will work, but you will also need to run another wireless feed back to your mixer so you can monitor what's being recorded on the camera. That's at least $1500 to do wireless to the camera, as opposed to a few hundred for a breakaway cable.

attenuator-no
Is this possible- yes , but if it nessesery to the situation - if not try to work with cable that would bring the audio in better way ( much cleaner signal- less noice)
