Hello people, I am worried because next monday I start new job (intership) and I have to shot short reportage for them . I have a Gh1 and a sturdycam. For audio i have a Tascam dr 100 and a Rode NTG1

I can´t add Ntg1 and rode ntg1 to sturdycam because its so heavy. I have thought attach the Rode ntg1 to a helmet , what do you think about this? any new suggestion?shoulder? I have tried it and the result is not bad

Sorry for my english, i hope you understood me.IMG_20130209_000329.jpgIMG_20130209_000459.jpg0877341003416.jpg

You'll get lots of handling noise doing that and it will pick up the breathing of the person wearing the helmet.

Get a backpack. Put a stable solid sheet of thin board in it with a rubber or thick foam as insulater.

Gaffer a short solid dowel stick to the board with the NTG-1 attached to the top, so it aims out over your head, approx 6 inches above it.

Trial and error, steer clear of low doorways.

Cheers.

I have to say I'd be very skeptical about either arrangement - mic on helmet, mic on a pole emerging from a backpack, or mic on camera - for two main reasons. First, a 'gun mic like the NTG-1 needs to be about 18-22 inches away from the person speaking for optimal pickup. Shotguns DO NOT amplify distant sounds and even though they are directional they still need to be relatively close to the sound source. Whether it's helmet mounted, backpack pole mounted, or camera mounted it's going to be too far away. Secondly, shotguns are directional and both sound quality and level falls off quickly when the mic's axis is not aimed precisely at the person speakng's mouth. You only have about 8 inches leaway off of dead centre before quality starts to suffer. No way will you be able to aim that well with the mic on top of a pole on your back or on the top of your head.

Hello Steve, I think i will try the first days the backpack-micro or somebody helps me carryng the rode, and I will save money and i will buy some used lavalier wireless system
