Atomos Shogun died in the middle of recording - corrupted audio

This was the first time I've used the Shogun with my C100. Everything went A-OK until I was into my 3rd battery and switched to 4th one which seems was a bad apple. After ~5min it showed only 10% of battery left (it was showing up full at 100% when plugged in just now) and than it just died in the next minute. I still have the video file but the audio is corrupted (static noise at the begining and very out of sync (~20sec behind the video) later on.

When I switched to yet another battery and powered the Shogun on I was not presented with the "A broken video file has been detected" option and I just rolled on with the footage. Every other file seems to be ok.

Any idea if I can fix this? Luckily the audio was recorded separately but a fixed file would make syncing easier.

Hate to hear that. I always recommend recording in-camera, as well, when using an external recorder. They scare the hell out of me. Too much that can go wrong. I've seen problems even with all of the big boys.

I used to use a NanoFlash all of the time and I ALWAYS recorded in-camera, too. Saved my ass on a corporate job. Talking head, TelePrompTer, executive, you get the idea. The Nano and my VariCam did not get along when you used pre-roll and the audio would have a "tic" in it. CD couldn't duplicate the problem even with the original files, but they replaced it with a new unit anyway. Like an idiot, I set the new one to pre-roll without testing it and did the shoot. Checked the footage when I got home before I dumped it to a drive to send it to the producer and of course the "tic" was there. Fourtunately I had the tape and I had to waste an hour of my afternoon playing the entire shoot back in real time to record it to the Nano(pre-roll OFF) so they could have a file instead of tape.

A few weeks ago one of my friends was shooting a press conference with his Odyssey on his F5. Went to feed/playback from the O7Q and the video was messed up(anything that moved wou "tear", like every other scan line would pull in the opposite direction-left or right). Fortunately for him, he rolled in-camera, too.

The morale of the story, never trust an external recorder as your only means or recording.

It sounds like you're lucky, because you do have a back-up and you're just gonna have to bite the bullet and sync the separate files in post. Just feel fortunate that you do have the back-up. I've seen situations where the only copy was F'd and un-useable.
