Atomos Shogun and Odyssey 7Q: regarding false color mode and focus checking

In order to finally be able to shoot 4K of the A7s sensor, I'm looking at both the Atomos Shogun and Odyssey 7Q.

FALSE COLOR MODE
Is it true that the Shogun does not allow you to assign colors or set your own IRE segments? For example in false color mode, the Shogun assigns grey to the 58-77 IRE region. Is it possible to shift that region from 58-77 to say 60-70 IRE and to choose a different color other than grey for that particular IRE region?

FOCUS CHECK
I know that the Shogun allows you to move the image around with your finger when you're zoomed in. Can the Odyssey 7Q do likewise?

This doesn't answer your questions but on the top of focus, would the video lag be a problem for focus adjustments mid take? I believe it's about 5-7 frames depending on the camera or input. Haven't been able to find a clear answer about this anywhere.

I don't know about the other guy, but the Odyssey7Q+ does not introduce any significant image lag. It is entirely the camera that does this and different cameras behave differently.

Not being able to move around the IRE values for the false color is kind of a bummer.

My skin is 1.3 stops brighter than mid grey, so, with slog2 on the a7s, and according to this, it should fall at IRE 51 according to Sony, and 61 if you always overexpose by one stop, as I do. Instead, if you put your skin in the thin pink band, you're overexposing by half a stop: a bit too much by Sony standards, a bit too little by mine.

I can live with that (basically I would adjust to shooting with just half a stop of overexposure), but it's not a cheap toy...

Hi Mitch,

quick question regarding the 7Q+

I understand that it records Apple Pro Res HQ.
Do you plan to introduce Pro Res and Pro Res LT in a future firmware update?

I know that the Atomos Shogun has these options for recording 4K. It would be great to have those options as well on the 7Q+ as they take up less disk space. Thank you in advance.

Yes, we are actively working on other flavors of ProRes. We are also working on Avid DNx codecs. New codecs will be included at no additional cost in upcoming free firmware updates. We had six updates in 2014.

Thanks Mitch. I must say that I love the 7Q+ false color mode. Being able to customize the false color setting in terms of color choice and IRE range is fantastic, cheers!
