Atomos Ninja V

Here is a quick test I did loading the fuji LUT in the "Monitor" and just using Native looking at the waveforms they look the same to my untrained eyes.
Yet to verify this waveform I am looking at is not really correct? It's being mapped to 16-235 RGB and not 0-255

They look the same to me. Interesting, which specific LUT is that using? My exposure tools on the Ninja absolutely change when the LUT is applied (and I've spent several hours trying to find a way for them to just read the log signal).

I’m using the FLOG Rec709

I thought you might be. All that LUT does is convert you from a Rec2020 gamut, to a Rec709 gamut. It's still FLOG, so there isn't any change to the gamma curve (and therefore you won't see any difference in the waveform with that LUT).

So bottom line in your opinion what I am seeing on my Ninja with the waveform is still not an accurate readout because of the "so called" bug and since I am more interested in exposing for the high lights ETTR when I see the waveform at or near 100 on the scale I'm actually not all the way to 100 correct?

Well, sort of.

The BT2020 to BT709 LUT is really for post, as without a gamma adjustment it doesn't make your on-set monitoring any easier. However with it on, you're at least using your exposure tools based on the FLOG exposure (albeit mapped to video levels, so it's no different to shooting regular FLOG as far as exposure tools go).

So your metering will be more accurate than putting an actual monitoring LUT on (which will push more of the signal into the highs and lows of the curve, where they'll be compressed a bit by the more limited video levels).

ETTR is going to be tricky to measure exposure accurately, because you're pushing the whole image up towards the top of the curve, where the video levels compression is going to affect a greater percentage of the image (as far as exposure metering is concerned).

Never worked with a Ninja V but it appears your recording ProRes 422.

ProRes uses Legal Range so your limited to 16-235. AFAIK ProRes 4444 can be Full Range (0-255), but even Arri limits this option to Legal.
