Atomos NAB 2012

Jeromy and crew have proven something - they are very clever people. Not that I ever doubted it. I met Jeromy last year and we had talked openly about a lot of these features theyve implemented. BUT - they have gone so much further with the feature set. They are great supporters of indie productions, and are just good people.

The smart log option seems like its going to be awesome. I don't edit as much anymore but when I do, I use fcpx, so this will be perfect for me. Glad I went with the Samurai vs. other company's recorders.

Terrific upgrades. I'm a big fan of the Atomos kit. Would have loved to support a crowd designing and manufacturing in my home town too, sadly the PIX240's audio recording options were too much of a drawcard for me so I went that route. But great to see how these are developing.

Still no fix for the FS100 start and stop via Lanc. So if you don't need a monitor (I don't) and your submarine only has one port hole (mine does) and like many are moving to Avid and Premiere..... Sure would like to have control of the Ninja that sits on the back of my rails.

I'm wondering if anyone there (at NAB) has been able to get a good look at the Samurai or Ninja with the new screen . . .
What I'm asking is, is it sufficient for focus???

Thanks.

So did Atomos ever figure out how to record off a Gh2 and fix the cadence issue while recording?

If not looks like I will have to look closer at ditching my Gh2 and getting the Black Magic
Cinema Camera.

I wish the would finally start shipping the promised free battery adapter cable, the DNxHD update and the Connect converters they announced last year.
I already have payed for that stuff quite a long time ago - all I got was the Samurai and excuses for the rest of the package.

And I hope they fix a couple of bugs and in a future Samurai device puts in a decent screen. The one in Samurai today is so poor and can't be used for anything else than run the GUI.

I did hear right didn't I ? DId they say they would be offering an upgrade path for Ninja owners for $500.00? Frank when did they tell you the CONNECT would be shipped?

Im also interested in the connect. Were they showing it at all? when i first purchased the samurai i was under the impression the connect was already shipping, given the way its marketed on there site.

im in agreement with edit man that screen needs to be improved in any future update really not usable the viewing angle is so narrow.

Yeah, they announced Connect about a year ago - since that day, when you look at the ATOMOS site, it looks like they are available (no word like: shipping after NAB 2012 or something like that).
When I ordered them in February, together with my Samurai, it was marked as "ships within 3 days" on my local dealers website (can´t blame ATOMOS for that though).
Same with the battery adapters. On the ATOMOST site they say you get one for free when you register your product - no dice, no response.

This kind of marketing and no response on the customer support side is what is keeping me from purchasing from Atomos. Glad that CD lowered the price of their Nano.

They had no choice, most of the competition records in 10 bit and the nano flash records in 8 bit
I would never buy it for that reason alone even though I think it's a good product. Why spend 2k on a field
recorder that you can't upgrade with you camera.

The Smart-Log is awesome. Looks like he was even adding the "F"avourite Marker to a clip-region. Wow, that is nice for FCPX users!

And Atomos has mentioned in the past that they're working on an over and under-crank feature for the Samurai, but at the rate that they actually bring things out, I guess we can expect that at next year's NAB.

No real confidence in this company. Their products are supposedly available for purchase and never come out. The continue to say Coming Soon for everything they market. Their own reps at NAB were having to read from the same pdf's on their web siteand did not know the products or availability.

I love these guys - they are quite responsive to feedback. I own 2 Samurais now. The Samurai has proven to me to be quite stable in the field and has the lowest power draw out of any external 10 bit recorder.
