AT875R and Phantom Power

I was just wondering, If I was to get a AT875R and run it off the camera, by what length of time would i be reducing the charge on the camera battery?

I get about 5 hours out of a charge right now.

Or is that not how Phantom Power works?

The 875r draws around 2mA

2 milliamps, wow. That's 2 thousandths of an amp (0.002 amps). Doesn't that work out to about a tenth of a watt? (0.002 amps x 48 volts = 0.096 watts)

I knew microphones didn't take a ton of electricity, but I never looked up exactly how much they used.

Yes and the ambient temperature will probably have more effect on your battery life, think of it a 1.5v duracell powers most simlilar shotgun mic's and will last a long long time!

Thanks for the info.

Good to know it uses so little power. I'm thinking of getting a "Zoom H5". In a lot of cases I'd have the Shotgun plugged into that. The Zoom is the only way I can do normal stereo sound, stereo shotgun and stereo Senn EK100 all at the same time (or best value on a low budget anyway).
