AT831R Lav and H4N?

Guys,

Does anyone have any experience with this Lavalier and the H4N together? I suppose I can just plug it into the In-Line Power Module (AT8533) and then plug the In-Line Power Module straight into the H4N XLR port, right? I was thinking of getting 2 of these for a series of 2 people interviews and another series of 2 people sketches that I have ahead.

If I use the lav mics that don´t come with a power module I can still use them with the the H4N by using its phantom power supply instead, right?

Any tips on a nice lav mic under us$200 that I can plug directly on the H4Ns XLR ports?

Yes, you can do this. Phantom power will need to be enabled.

no, lav mics typically use a lower power than phantom provides, commonly referred to as plug-in power. you will have to use a power module like the one you listed. I don't have any recommendations on a lav mic, as i'm in the same dilemma (kind-of) myself.

What about these guys: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...icrophone.html
In one side you have the mic and the on the other you have an XLR...can´t I feed it power by just plugging it directly on the H4N´s XLR input?
Yes you can - it says in the description that they require phantom power. In this case, the xlr part probably has a converter that feed the mic an appropriate level.

If you try to feed a lav with full 48v phantom power when they only need plug in power, there's a chans you will fry the mic.

Those MXL mics should work. (with Phantom Pwr.)
FWIW, Due to the extreme low price (including the normally costly XLR Phantom Pwr. adapter) I would be somewhat skeptical as to their quality and durability.

Yes indeed, as Jema stated, simply putting a standard XLR connector on the end of a cable, would likely 'fry' the mic with 48V Phantom Pwr.

I ended up getting a pair of AT831R, which already come with the power module (AT8533). I´ve listened to some samples and reviews on youtube that sounded great for my needs.

I suppose the power module that comes with the AT831R should drops the 48volt phantom down to the 5 volts the mic capsule actually operates on, right? I don´t want to fry my new mics.

-- That's correct Rafael, it should work without issue providing Phantom Pwr. is enabled.
