AT4073 vs BP4073 Sensitivity (70.8mV vs 35.5mV at 1Pa)

Hi guys,

I was checking microphone specs and found this riddle. The AT4073a get lots of recommendations, but it's now discounted. I like getting new (and almost always improved) products because presumably they'll be worth something on the market longer. It's being replaced by Audio Technica by the BP4073, as most of you probably know. Now, some specs have been improved but the sensitivity has dropped from 70.8mV at 1Pa to 35.5mV. I'm sure there is a more elegant way to put this but..

WHY????!!!

Anyway, is there any way this isn't a pretty bad thing? Does it make it up some other way? And I don't mean to invite the comment that some sources just don't need high sensitivity. For bird recordings, it is outright a worse product, right?

Sorry for the rambling - cheers guys.

Well it's got lower noise, better signal to noise, can handle much louder sounds, has more low range, better dynamic range, it's lighter and has a more balanced pattern.

Pure sensitivity is not nec. what you want.
