AT&T "You Will" commercials (1993)

Love them, love the 90s.

But I personally think they were making educated guesses based on the knowledge and technology they had or saw for the future. (You could say the same thing about movies...many which were made much earlier than the above.)

Today, it would be like making commercials with more obvious predictions like flying cars or robots, or something more complicated and controversial like showing hardware/chips implanted into humans' brains/bodies for various capabilities.

We really don't know when it's going to happen but it's going to happen.

Bell Labs / Lucent Technologies were light years ahead of anybody else, and working on
all those things and more.

Bell Labs are credited with the development of radio astronomy, the transistor, the laser, the CCD, information theory, the Unix operating system, and the programming languages C, C++, and S.
Nine Nobel Prizes have been awarded for work completed at Bell Laboratories.
(Wiki)

That was when AT&T was "The" phone company (and much more).
Then the AT&T monopoly was was broken up, the digital revolution hit, etc...

I bet if you replaced the soundtrack with some light industrial (e.g., Nine Inch Nails, Ministry), and tweaked the VO ever so slightly, the spots would work as promos for a Philip K Dick anthology. ;-)
