I have used the lesser models of the azden, sgm-2x and sgm-x and they were pretty worthless to my taste (but fairly inexpensive). I also have the at835, which is the lesser model of the AT897 and it is extremly better sounding and more natural than the azdens. However I dont know if they improved upon their existing models with the sgm 1000 so I cannot say.
But I feel it would be safe to say that anything azden produces will be of lesser quality than Audio Technica. That is just my two cents with my limited experience.
Maybe someone can shed some light on this new mic- I would like to hear some tests before I conclude a definate winner.
I really dont think that the At 897 will dissapoint you. It is well known to be as good as if not better than the ME66.
