AT 4073a advice

I've decided that while I'm deciding which camcorder to get (xl2 or dvx100a), I'll buy a 4073 because I'm going to get that regardless of which camcorder I choose.

I'm thinking of getting a Lightwave Equaliser because someone on the 2pop forums said it was better than a rycote softie and cheaper - any comments on that?

Also, I was thinking of using the mike with a beachtec adaptor with my consumer camcorder that I have now - is this possible, or does it need some sort of phantom power thingy that you only get in pro-sumer camcorders? My consumer camcorder is a JVC one that only cost about £550.

I know that the 4073 is meant to be good for outdoor recording - but what about indoor? If its not going to work well for indoor work, can anyone recommend a mike thats suited to this? Bear in mind that I don't have much money to spare too. Or is there a mike that is good for indoors and outdoors?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Topper-

I don't know a whole lot about the 4073 but I'm sure it will work fine. You don't need anything too fancy to start out with and later down the road you can upgrade. I myself have the AT815 and works fine. I have no problems with it.

I own the rycote and yes its alittle more than the LW Eq but both should work pretty good. Just make sure your audio person knows what their doing too. If the LWeq is what you want to get cause its cheaper than go ahead. Sometimes cheap products can fail on you. I've learned it the hard way. I thought Id save money on speakers by buying a cheap one instead of the good(high priced) one. Well the the next day the speakers blew out. Oh well, I learned. If its only a couple of bucks difference then I recomend the rycote. I used the rycote and never had a problem.

I know the DVX camera has built in phantom. You might want to check if the beatchtek has built in phantom power. If not find one that does. I'm not exactally sure if they have phantom power. Check it.

It's reconmended for outdoor use but It can be used for indoors too. This mic can be used anywhere. Why don't you just get it and if you don't like it return it for something else. The best way to get a better understand on how well this mic works is to go try it. You have 30days to return anything. Go try and experiment.

Re: AT 4073a advice

ethe 40 73 is avery hot output mike - for very high leevel invaerment get your self build in pad ( 10 db -15db is enout ) not to dammege your input stage
for prosumer camcorder , the beachteck dx 6 ( or dx8 -even better since have limmiters and dual phantom power )is very good product

but if you are lloking for the best - the sd mix pre ( cant sit under the camera , but can sit on your belt) is the way to go , the benefit is better preamp and limiter then your dvx can give , consumer line level that can go to your small camera ( i hope you have line input )
the other way is to buy phantom power adaptor 9 ( dyniky or psc )
and run itthe mike thre the box

Thanks for the links chi-red. I don't know too much about this though, so could you explain how the miniscreen differs from the equaliser I was thinking of getting? Do I have to get the windmaster and minisoc with it, then decide which to use depending on how windy it is?
