I am currently looking to upgrade my laptop for editing. I found this computer by asus that utilizes the new laptop variant of the Nvidia 1070 graphics card. The price seems right compared to similarly specced laptops. However I am unsure if it will be able to handle 4k footage from cameras like the red scarlet, fs7, bmpc, etc. The specs are as follows: i7-6700hq, GTXTM 1070 w/8gb DDR5, 16gb of ram at 2133mhz, 256 gb M.2 PCIE SSD for programs and OS, and then a 1 TB 7200rpm hdd. I edit in premiere and it seems to be very CPU heavy, which makes me wonder if the 1070 will do much good. My current editing computers are beginning to fall behind in the performance game. But I would prefer to upgrade my laptop first since it gets the most use and seems to perform at about half of what my desktop still does. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

After some research I was kind of disappointed in the performance of the i7-6700hq when compared to what I already have in my computer. I have been looking at some laptops with the i7-6820hk and I think that will be the route I will take. I looked at some laptops from Clevo and Cyberpowerpc where they offered full i7-6700k desktop cpus and a 1070 gpu for less than 2k, but the whole heat dissipation and power draw concerns steered me back towards a mobile processor. I am currently looking at the asus rog g752 oc edition with a i7 6820hk and a 1070 gpu for 2400. I like the built in overclocking tools asus provides with it, which really are necessary to make the price jump worth it. Plus it comes with a free 1 yr drops and spills warranty. I looked at some MSI laptops, including one with similar specs for under 2200. Alienware was quickly ruled out due to price and the fact that the display they use isn't that great. If I pick something else I'll let you know.
