assist me in spending money

so, i never thought this day would come... my film that was shot on the dvx garnished three awards last week at an international film festival. While at the fest a woman approached me and invited me to direct her 88 page screenplay. The woman has very deep pockets and connections that reach very far and is ready to put down money to buy equipment to work on a series of her award winning scripts. I won't believe anything until i see the check's but for now she has asked me to put together of list of needed items. Let the spendning begin. On my last project i rented all of the equipment so this is quite a change. What can you do you might ask? Help me spend money of course! Now i'm not trying to be ridiculous, and we have already decided we want to shoot on the DVX-100a. Her screenplay consists of mostly the same interior of a home so of course our major cost will be lighting. I'm also going to have to explain to her that renting would be a better option for HMI's etc. Please!!! post links to some of your favorite gear. Of course THe DVX, Lighting (Tungsten and Flouro), Matte box's, Mics, Poles, Tripods, century stands, scrims, flags, cases, and more! I hope you have fun with this one!!! :)

hey adam. i met you at Best Fest. (i was on the 1st place 48 Hours college team). congrats again on your success at the festival. thats awesome to hear about this oppurtunity as well.

aside from getting a dvx, and some lights, id really pay attention to getting some decent audio gear. if your trying to keep costs reasonable, get yourself something like a Sennheiser ME-66, and a boompole. you may want a mixer too, but depending on what she actually wants to spend, you might want to just rent one.

as far as lights. if you are shooting indoors, dont go overkill on wattage. flouros are great but expensive. pick up some 100-250 LTM peppers. lowel omni's are cheap and pretty flexible.

get yourself a good set of sticks with a good fluid head. if you want to discuss things more at length as far as what i use, and would suggest, just email me.

congrats again.

Adam if money is not a problem and you are buying as opposed to renting. Here is what I suggest. First, RENT THE HMI. For interiors, get the Kinos if possible, if not get a couple of Arri fresnels 150s, 300s, 650s and may be a 1K fresnel, a softbox. I'm not a big fan of the ME66. I use the Sennheiser 416 or get an Audio Technica 4073a; even a 897 is good. With your situation, I would pay attention to bringing the production value higher. Case in point, get an inexpensive crane, a glidecam 4000 pro and a dolly; even if it is home made. Getting good tracking shots, crane shots, stabilizing shots does a lot to the production. Of course you need sticks and even a car mount is good. If you use the single suction cup style, make sure you secure and strap the camera with a backup rigging system. A crane, car mount, glidecam and dolly/tracks shouldn't run over $2 grand. Let me know if you need links. I will post them upon request.

i already own a glidecam jib and might be interested in a dolly, but from the description of this woman's script and her feel for the overall production, I have a feeling that glossy shots is not really what were aiming for. Its now my job to convince her that we need to rent most of the equipment. I'd much rather pay my DP well than have a bunch of equipment when i'm done shooting and have a not so happy DP.
