Aspect ratio problem

Hi all

Okay, the thing is this:

My film was shot 16:9 and edited as DV Widescreen project in Vegas. Then I exported the footage to After Effects and did some work there.

Then I rendered the footage back from AE (again, using DV Widescreen render setting).

But now, when I open my footage in Vegas and try to work Widescreen I get black bars on the sides instead of on the top and bottom.

And worse still, some shots have been cropped from the top side!

When I switch to DV NTSC I don't get the black bars but I still get cropped shots.

How can I go back to the original Widescreen setting I had? Did I blunder something in AE or was it in Vegas?

Thanks.

Need to know more about what you render settings (both ways) were, and also some screen shots illustrating the problem would help.

The render settings from AE were NTSC DV Widescreen with "Lock to 3:2 aspect ratio" checked.

The settings from Vegas are:

NTSC DV Widescreen
Audio: 48,000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo, PCM Uncompressed.
Video: 29.97 fps, 720x480, Lower field first.
Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.212. OpenDML compatible.
Widescreen NTSC DV video files compatible with Sony Video Capture.

I hope that helps. I'm not entirely sure how to put screen captures up here.

Right-click on the footage in Vegas and check the pixel aspect ratio. If it's not set to 1.2121, change it to that.

As for the "cropping," I'd need visuals to see exactly what you mean.

Okay, that did the trick! Thanks.

So the black bars are basically where they should be and the image looks way better, but it's still cropped in the top.

The original shot is on the left, and the new shot is on the right.

Both are with a setting of NTSC DV Widescreen and 1.2121 pixel ratio
