Aspect Ratio help!!!

Shot footage in 16:9 (squeeze mode on the DVX100a) it's fine in Premiere but when i import into AE it comes in as a box shape! Checked the settings on the composition menu and it's all set to Widescreen/16:9 so why is the comp window playing like a box shape?

Secondly can't find a way to output to my monitor. Again can do this in Premiere but AE doesn't seem to let me (and the comp screen is terrible quality) Go to Video preview and the box selecected is 'play on desktop only' and I am unable to select anything else!

Thanks so much guys. As you've probably figured whilst I'm good with Premiere I'm new to AE!!

I'm away from my editor at the moment, and this may only apply in AE 6.5, but here goes:

To view your square pixel footage in a 16x9 ratio click the button along the bottom of the Comp window that (on mouseover) says something about pixel aspect ratio. That's a horrid explanation, but I can't remember the exact wording. It's near the button that turns safe areas on and off.

As for your Comp quality, are you viewing at 100% size and Full resolution? Both of those settings are also on the row at the bottom of the Comp window. You may be set to Half or Quarter res...

I strongly recommend that you edit your Composition Settings so that it is 854x480 with square pixels.

Once you've made that change, select your footage and type Command-Option-F on the Mac or Control-Alt-F on Windows. This will Fit the footage to the window.

At this point, you are seeing very nearly 16:9 footage which is being interpolated using high-quality scaling rather than the clunky aspect ratio correction setting.

that is the "pixel-setinverhaltnis-korrektur aktivieren/deaktivieren" junst next to the avtive camera button. I am sorry but I cannot translate it to English because I don't really speak German. :S
854:480???????????? that is one of the worst things I have ever heared. 720:576 is the correct number. 854:720=1.186111 is really not a natural multiple, 480:567=0.833333;
854/16=53.375*9=480.375!=480 and miniDV camera records 720-576

Thanks

Thanks

Sorry folks - been away for a few weeks. Thanks for your responses. I will see if these things work!
