aspect ratio for tv

Should i make my sequence settings 640x480 or 720x480 for a 4:3 tv edit with footage shot with the dvx? and if i make it 640x480 will it distort the image?I shot in sqeezed mode,did a 16:9 edit and dropped it in to a 4:3 timeline(letterbox). which aspect ratio should that time line be since tv is 4:3 640x480 and the dvx shoots 720x480?

hi kyle,

Capture your footage as you would capture any other footage (unless it is 24pa - then you use the advanced pulldown removal capture preset). basically, leave it at 720x480 because making it 640x480 will indeed distort the image. If you shot in squeeze mode, you can set your timeline as anamorphic 16:9 and edit your footage in a 16:9 aspect ratio. Otherwise just drop it inot a regular 4:3 timeline and FCP will automatically letterbox the footage for you.
