As Arri LED Fresnels

Looks like a good location stand light if yu can trust them to work correctly. Pictures make it seem well made.

True. I'm also curious what the actual light output is on these things compared to 650 Arri fresnels. I'm still not very good with figuring out lumens/lux/footcandles and how it all relates. I still think in watts when it comes to tungsten bulbs.

Well these specs look screwy....

The output of the 100w version is listed as 6300 lux at 1 meter while the 50w version is listed as 6220 lux. Hmmmmm.....

No CRI listings for either....

These really have very little power. If you put a diffusor in front of them you'll basically have the power of a flashlight.

I'd estimate their useful brightness to be about that of a 300-watt tungsten Fresnel....maybe.

A fella reviewed a very similar LED Fresnel here just a few weeks ago and the color was just terrible - so magenta it wasn't even close to usable. Sure, you can hit them with a green gel but that doesn't correct the problem without adding other color deviations when we're talking about THAT MUCH color compensating gel.

They are cheap though....but I'm not going to bite at these until someone somewhere does a serious review with real measurements of the light power and color.

EDIT:
THIS ONE at least "claims" to have a CRI of 90.

EDIT 2:
Here's one that is 150 watts. That would be more of a useful output. It "claims" a CRI of 90. Doesn't have a typical Fresnel lens so that makes me suspicious too.
I'm really hoping one of these will be useful some day, but the few reviews of LED Fresnels under $1,000 that I've come across have been just dismal.

I've used these sorts of cheap LEDs on set. Steer clear would be my advice. The optics were screwy, with weird chromatic aberrations around the edges of the beam. And the color was godawful, only useful for background lighting.

There are good LED fixtures available. But none of them come cheap. And if you can't afford the good-stuff, I'd highly recommend sticking to tungsten - the compromises for bad LEDs are too strong.

Thank you for your input guys. I was looking up tungsten fresnels on ebay and came across this so I figured I'd ask. But yeah it does seem safest at this point to still stick with tungsten for cheaper fresnels.

I'd say get your tungsten Fresnels from Came-TV. The lenses are better. I have some "Limo-Studio" units and a couple Came-TV and the lensing really is better - you can see the giveaway it some of the cheap-o's have only a few "rings" on the lens. The better ones have almost twice as many. The ARRI's have twice as many. That's pretty important to how the lens works.

We started putting in some of the Source Four fresnels that use the HPL lamps, they are really very nice and the same lamp as our ellipsoidials which makes stocking spares easier. Not too expensive either.
