artistically fixing bad footage...

I have some grainy semi dark footage that cannot be filmed again and adding luma curves or shadowhighlighters just adds noise... I have thought about "saving it" maybe applying some effect to give it a more "artisitic-modern feel" but im not sure what, perhaps "posterize-findedges it" effect to give it a "comic look"...
does anyone have any ideas.... its people coming off a boat on to the beach at night, any suggestions are welcomed... let ur imagination ride wild and help me!

i have seen artificial lens flaire doing wonders for a bad shot -
but then i dont know if you have an established light source within the frame to justify this manouver .
