Artificial Narration???

Does anyone know of a program that I can download that would allow me to convert my voice over script into artificial narration?

I've seen a lot of web sites that use an artificial voice to welcome the viewer, you can even type words and the character speaks it.

I would need a realistic sounding voice, not the usual Mac voice over tool, but a voice that sounds real.

The reason for this would be that it would allow me not to have to record my own voice and then do all that audio clean up.

Thanks very much in advance,

- Nick

There are services like voice123.com where you can submit scripts for bids and listen to a wide range of voiceover talent who charge a similar range of prices. You can likely find VO talent in your area by contacting local tv stations and production studios. It's not uncommon to find someone who has a good voice and can also edit the audio for you.

While you can teach a computer to read phonetically, ie the mac voice tool, teaching it to understand the content so it can express it properly is another story.

Even if you do not edit the material, you should listen into the v/o session (via telephone if necessary) to make sure the actor reads it the way you want, it may cost you to go back and do it again otherwise.

AT&T labs or maybe Bell Labs has a free web page where you can type in text then it emails you the audio file of a computer generated voice that you choose. There are men, women, french all sorts of accents and options. It's kinda cool. I don;t have a link but I found it through google.

Yep, that's the one. I used it for a technical how to training video. Play around with the text for words and it turns out pretty good.

I've used Speedy Spots quite a bit - very affordable, depending on how much VO you need.

Ok, I requested their rate chart, their prices are pretty cheap, 2 minutes of VO for $100 is a good price.

1.5 minutes = $75
2 minutes = $100
2.5 minutes = $125
3 minutes = $150
3.5 minutes = $175
4 minutes = $200
4.5 minutes = 220
5 minutes = $240
5.5 minutes = $260
6 minutes = $280
6.5 minutes = $300
7 minutes = $320
7.5 minutes = $340
8 minutes = $360
8.5 minutes = $380
9 minutes = $400
9.5 minutes = $420
10 minutes = $440

If it's just a few lines the AT&T voices are surprisingly believable. If it's a 30 minute + doc, hire an actor.
