Artificial DOF!

I have been working on creating out of focus parts on a video but the mask is showing edges on the upper track.

Here's what I normally do -- I duplicate a video with the exact same cc. I create a mask on the top track where I want the focus to show, feathered and all. Then I blur the bottom track. It really creates an impressive look if I'm not using an adapter but those edges stick out. I have played around with the feather on the top track, in, out and both to no success. I also played with the composite modes using alpha, overlay and multiply mask but those lines are still visible. Is there something I'm forgetting to do to resolve this issue?

are you using beziers to create the mask ?
if beziers then there are 3 ways to feather the edges one feathers inward which would make the mask smaller .. the other is outward which makes the mask slightly larger ... or you can feather both ways ... seems feather inward would soften the edges on your upper track?

Yes. I have been using the bezier mask in the event/crop. I have used all of feathers, inwward, out and both. It lessens the edge but it's stil somewhat visible.

It could be the order of your filters and bezier masking. The Vegas default is silly IMO.

To fix things:
Go into event FX.
At the bottom left, the little triangles set pre/post effect. This controls filter order.
Click them so they point left.

Glenn,
That was freaking AWESOME. I did just what you said and I couldn't believe that it took the edges away. I wouldn't have figured that on my own. Thanks so much!!!
