Artifacts using XLR input?!

This may sound blatanly stupid to the audio pro's here, but here it goes. I am trying to get a basic mic set up working, so I have hooked my Mic into input 1 using the xlr cable, and have my settings at:

Ch.1 Select
- Input 1

Ch. 2 Select
- INT(R)

Input 1
- On
Input 2
- Off
-------
Now when I try and record sound I am getting artifact on my image and no sound recording at all. Is there something I am totally missing here?

Thanks

Re: Artifacts using XLR input?!

what do you mean artifacts on your image? hmm, weird? Does this happen when the XLR cable is unplugged? Check your menu settings. I don't have my camera with me right now but check your manual till I get back to you.

Re: Artifacts using XLR input?!

Artificats as in the blocky images and puzzle peice stuff. Camera operates fine without an XLR cable plugged in. When the mic is plugged in, there seems like some kind of interference signal recording over the image? I have tried two diff. types of mics so i figure its either a setting or the camera is bunk. :-/

Re: Artifacts using XLR input?!

Why is input 1 On - do you need phantom power to the mic. (does it contain a battery).

Is the XLR cable and plug(s) wired correctly ? Try another cable.

What happens with Input 2, Chan Select 2. (Power supply if necessary).

Does the mic work ?

Re: Artifacts using XLR input?!

The mics have been tested and the cables. The mic needs phantom power, that is why I had it switched on to input1. I have tried two diff. mics with two diff. cables and the same result.

Re: Artifacts using XLR input?!

hm, i hope you don't got a defected camera. If you still have warranty for the camera, get it checked ASAP. Sounds like an internal problem.

Re: Artifacts using XLR input?!

Yeah I still have warranty -- to bad because its a damn nice camera and I have lots of audio gear rented :-X

Re: Artifacts using XLR input?!

If anyone has ever had this problem and knew for sure if it was internal or not, I'd love to know before I take it back.
Thanks.

Re: Artifacts using XLR input?!

mortimer- dude, don't wait too long. You're warranty will expire soon. I'm just trying to look out.

Re: Artifacts using XLR input?!

Mortimer,

i am interested in hearing what the result was with your camera issue,

Re: Artifacts using XLR input?!

I let it sit for awhile, then started again from the basics and set up everything. It worked fine this time - but to be safe I am having a tech. guy look at it Wednesday to double check before I shoot my next flick. If the problem occurs again I will let you know what's going on specifically for he'll be able to pin point it better then me.
