Articulated Boompoles worth it?

I'm thinking of investing in a either a KTEK152CCR or a KA-113CCR...the KA being the articulated one at 9'5" and the K152CCR extending to 12 feet but not articulating. Anyone have experience with the articulating model and can let me know if it's worth it over the other?

Thanks,

JM

PS: I was thinking of investing in either one of those... but wouldn't mind hearing any other options that might save me some $$$ but that are still great boompoles. The above would run me from $600-700. I don't need that a great a boompole just yet, but I figured if I were to buy one that I'd buy a really good one, thus I narrowed it down to those two, but am open to being convinced to maybe more sane(?) options lol.

Get a loon boom if you want something cheap. http://loonaudio.com/

The penta series is the cheaper of the two and they are apparenly super good quality. many people rave about them and they are way cheaper than some other choices. You can get something a lot longer than 12 feet for 700 bucks.

If you've got the budget go for it, but weigh up how many times you might use the articulation feature.

If you're a solo op a straight one with a support to stand it in place is a good option. Run and gun with an op, a short cheap aluminium pole is the go, it's going to get trodden on. WIde angle outdoor features, a long one.

A great tripod can last a lifetime but a cheaper boom can be upgraded as you go, especially if/when you need an extra one.

Cheers.

The articulateds are primarily intended for newsies who need to get a mic close to a politico or someone on the perp walk by reaching over the heads of a scrum. They don't offer any advantages to the regular doco/feature shoot where you usually will have a clear field of action between the boom op and the subject. Save your money and your shoulder muscles and get a plain straight pole.
