This month's American Cinematographer (Van Helsing on the cover) has an article on "November" (shot with a DVX100 for those of you that live in a hole and haven't heard about it) This years winner for best cinematography at Sundance.

Lot's of good info. 15 day schedule, $150,000 budget, masked the 4x3 to 16x9, etc. etc.

I agree, it's a good article to read. She found the camera to be a bit soft on focus and doesn't have the solid blacks she'd like to see. Of course she had their cameras souped up with focus pullers, etc.

Now I want to see the movie! The article led me to believe that it'll take another 2 or 3 significant generations for these cameras to get to a "pro" level...before we start seeing them as another common brush on the artist's pallette.

And I might also add the American Cinematographer magazine ran a couple of test reviews by ASC members on the DVX last year. I forget the issue, but the reviews were very positive, and remember this review is from people that spend time behind Panavisions & ARRIs!

The review was a nice confirmation that this camera can do very nice work at a very low price.

P.S. they loved the crisp lens...and the footage transfered well to 35 mm,.... not as nice as 35 or 16, but it's getting somewhere in the ballpark.
