Art Director heehee

Sad Max

Artful Dodger
So yesterday was my first day as a Local 800 Art Director, on a large feature project - "G-Force" (my previous AD work had all been on smaller, or non-union projects).

I like it. Admittedly it's only been one day (and one quarter) so far, but compared to designing sets, this is cake. Plus PAs treat you like a demigod - being management hath its rewards, I guess.

Plus screener copies and ticket discounts/free tickets at the theater and lectures and guild screenings.

Plus an Academy vote.

Plus the Art Directors' Ball, next year.

This is fun.

Thanks!

I treated myself to an AL2616W lcd, so as to make my workstation look competitive with the other guys at the office - only to discover that most of my colleagues are running not one, but two big lcds, on their desks.

Goes to show where equipment envy gets ya...

Well, I don't care for ramen (the too-broke-to-eat-better kind, anyway) so I had to stick to something I could afford...

Cryo - yeah, 'Avatar' was a fairly short gig (I joined up late, and got two months out of it; the Production Designer is a wonderfully cool guy who actually apologized (!) for bringing me on toward the end, but I hope to work with him on future stuff, and start earlier, doing it). They actually wanted me to stay on for another few weeks, but 'G-Force' was offering an Art Director card, and I was eager to get mine before I hit 40...

David - no; almost everybody asks that, but this is not related to the "Battle of the Planets" G-Force. I guess we just somehow co-opted the title...

I do previs and design work on two or three commercial/promo projects per year; there's a designer/art director team who usually call with that sort of stuff. The schedules tend to be murderous, but the duration is usually short and the pay makes up for it.
