It's funny...I have a shelf of books on lighting, cinematography, videography, sound engineering, screenwriting, editing, VFX, SFX and animation...
...but somehow all of my art direction background has been gathered on-the-job.
'Cause it ended up being my job, I guess.
I suspect that a good collection of books and magazines on architecture, interior design, fashion design, art history, theater design, illustration, etc, is a place to start...I've accumulated a huge collection of those, but nothing that I could describe as a text on 'art direction,' specifically.
